Job Description
Meal Service and Baking
- Serve resident/client meals, desserts, baked goods and beverages in a friendly and efficient manner.
- Assist in catering/special functions set up and food service.
- Assist in portioning and serving menu items in an attractive manner.
- Set and clear dining room tables and trays.
- Be aware of residents’/clients’ nutritional needs, special diets and requests and comply.
- Assist residents/clients with meal set up as required
Safety and Sanitation
- Maintain work area and equipment in a safe and sanitary manner adhering to the policies and procedures of the Home, the Public Health Act, the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and the Ontario Regulation 246/22 made under the Act, WHMIS, HACCP, OH&S Act and pertinent regulations
- Check and record all food temperatures during preparation and before service
- Collect food samples according to departmental procedures
Communication
- Communicate with nursing/ADP staff regarding resident/clients special needs
- Communicate effectively with residents, guests, staff and service representatives
- Communicate with residents being conscientious of their needs and requests and being sympathetic with their welfare
- Keep informed of new residents, job routines, and procedures by attending in-service programs, staff meetings and reading bulletin boards
- Communicate with Nutrition Manager regarding production, stock, safety, resident concerns, etc.
- Call-in staff in the absence/unavailability of Nutrition Manager
Organization
- Perform duties efficiently by keeping work area organized
Job Requirements
- Completion of Food Service Worker Program required
- Completion of Food Handlers Certificate
- Experience in a Long Term Care setting essential
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as an effective team member
- Capable of meeting physical demands of the job
- Demonstrated safe food handling and food safety sanitation essential
- Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Demonstrated commitment to relationship-centered care

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $23.43 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 22.5 per week
