Summary of Position
Reporting to the Director of Resident Care and Assistant Director of Care and as an integral part of the Resident Care Team, the Restorative Care Aide implements restorative programs to assist and support residents to restore, maintain or improve activities of daily living and psychosocial/mental functioning.
In partnership with Western University, the McCormick Care Group is supporting the development of the restorative curriculum. The plan is for the McCormick Home to host the restorative training this fall not only for McCormick, but other LTC Homes as well.
Additionally, this position has responsibility for:
- Overall provision and supervision of all restorative care delivered to residents by Personal Support Workers and Registered Practical Nurses.
- Overall supervision in the Home in the absence of Departmental Managers.
- Provides a link to all families regarding care to the residents.
- This position has close working relationships with the LTC Leadership Team, Physicians, Nurse Practitioner, Consultants, Supervisors, Social Workers and all other staff of the Home, Home and Community Care Support Services, Hospital Discharge Planners, Educational Institutions, as well as peer agencies, residents/clients, families and volunteers.
- Line is currently scheduled: 10:00 – 18:00 x4 including every other weekend
Responsibilities
- Implement and assist in evaluating both individual and group restorative programs based on assessed needs of individual residents
- Monitor the behavior and condition of residents during restorative programs, reporting any significant changes
- Participate in development and revision of programs under the guidance of the DOC
- Maintain program and resident records according to standards
- The Registered Nurse has responsibility for ensuring compliance of self as well as those reporting to this position with all policies and procedures of the home, as well as any policy or procedure that is specific to this department
- This position will also be responsible for ensuring a safe environment for all residents/ clients/ visitors and staff at all times, as well as be compliant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Compliance with the Code of Conduct and the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of the McCormick Care Group are critical elements of this position
- The Registered Nurse is also responsible for maintaining compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and Ontario Regulation 246/22 made under the Act, CARF Accreditation Standards and any other applicable Act or Legislation deemed necessary by the Home
- Support on the Home Area’s
Background/Qualifications
- Current registration with College of Nurse of Ontario as an RN
- Certificate in Restorative Care Education and Training Course or equivalent; or willingness to take the course on site for successful applicants
- Current CPR Heart Saver Certificate required
- Demonstrated ability to Chair a Committee
- Recent experience in Geriatrics, Rehabilitation and/or LTC; preferred
- Demonstrate leadership skills and Administrative abilities
- Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and direct others
- Knowledge of diseases and conditions causing memory impairment in frail elderly populations; experience with memory impaired population
- Must be capable of establishing positive interpersonal relationships and able and willing to work as effective team member
- Demonstrated skill in physical and psychosocial assessment
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
- Demonstrated commitment to relationship-centered care
- Capable of meeting physical demands of the job and apply effective body mechanics
- Demonstrated flexibility and organizational skills
- Ability to apply effective body mechanics and meet the physical demands of the position
- Demonstrate effective communication and documentations skills
- Ability to work in a computerized environment

Pay: $35.22-$50.40 per hour
