Dr. Anna Garnett, School of Nursing, Western University
June 2023 – ongoing
During COVID-19, many residents of long-term care homes got separated from their families due to social restrictions. This experience led to many residents and family members keeping connected with technology such as iPads, tablets, and smartphones – each of which had associated benefits and challenges. The study seeks to understand how virtual presence technology (iPads, tablets, smartphones) can support social connectedness between residents and their families. The study involves a one-time interview to learn the experiences of staff, residents, and families on the research topic. The information gathered from the interviews will help inform ways to improve technology use to support social connection within long-term care.
The recruitment phase has been completed, with interviews currently ongoing
