Care Home Bulletins

The interdisciplinary health care team at McCormick Home is comprised of a number of health care professionals, who are highly skilled, trained and experienced in caring for the elderly.

Our team includes three physicians and one nurse practitioner who provide medical care to 160 residents. Our medical director oversees the quality of medical care provided.

On a 24-hour basis, our staff includes registered nurses, registered practical nurses, and personal support workers who provide direct nursing care. McCormick Home supports a model of nursing care that includes nursing clinical expertise in skin and wound care, continence care, infection control, restorative care, behavioural support and palliative care. Additional nursing positions include a clinical nurse educator and a resident assessment inventory (RAI) coordinator. Nursing practice is guided by the professional practice standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the best practice guidelines of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.

Residents also receive care from our social worker, clinical pharmacist, physiotherapist, dietician, life enrichment team members, and chaplain. For an extra fee, specialized services are also available for occupational therapy, dental care, foot care, wheelchair seating assessments, massage therapy, respiratory therapy, audiology, speech therapy and optometry.

We are committed to providing resident assessments and developing an individualized care plan that focuses on physical, intellectual, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs. The plan of care identifies mutual goals that maintain or enhance therapeutic, restorative, rehabilitative and preventative approaches.

The medical director, nurse practitioner, director of resident care and assistant director of care are responsible for overseeing all medical and nursing services and are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all residents and their families.

Our medical staff respect the individualized choices of our residents and are professionally trained, knowledgeable and sensitive to the unique care needs of the elderly. Excellence in care and compassion is achieved through continuous quality improvement and transparency in our interactions with residents and their families.
