It’s not quite art therapy, nor is it art education.
It’s a program that’s somewhere in between and is giving individuals with dementia the ability to work alongside artists as co-creators of drama, dance, music and visual art.
The Connecting through Art in Dementia Care program is a partnership between McCormick Care Group’s dementia services and the London Arts Council. It is available to clients of the day program at McCormick Home, the largest dementia care day program in Ontario.
“It’s a new area of working with the arts in the city of London in this particular way,” said Catherine McInnes of the London Arts Council. “I think that it’s just such powerful work.”
This program gives individuals with dementia the ability to draw on their memories, collaborate with others and create art.
