Dimensions Newsletter Spring 2021

After so many months of uncertainty and numerous restrictions for the sake of everyone’s health and safety, we are now beginning to see a glimmer of change on the horizon, most particularly through the measured rollout of vaccines to our residents, staff and our wider community as well as through the introduction of rapid antigen testing.

I am grateful to all our McCormick Home staff for responding so well to our new testing protocols. We know that by remaining steadfast in our commitment to safety, we will one day be able to be together again.

CTV News London covered the Irish festivities held at McCormick Home to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. (Nick Paparella / CTV News) On March 17, 2021, CTV London News featured a story on the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations at McCormick Home. The day marked the first time that many residents were able to go outdoors and enjoy the sunshine together in more than a year

While it is wonderful to see some progress on the COVID-19 front, we know that caution is key.  That is why we are being extremely supportive of any changes to the guidelines for our residents, family members, visitors, caregivers and staff, as directed by the Ministry of Long-Term Care.

Rest assured that if you have a loved one living at McCormick Home, our priority remains to provide them with a safe, comfortable and enriching living experience despite the challenges we are currently facing.

I would also like to extend my appreciation to the McCormick Dementia Services staff for so adeptly accommodating the carefully measured reopening of our day program.  Even though our outreach programs have been suspended or reduced, we continue to reach out to all our clients and families through recreation and support programs via Zoom videoconferencing.   We are also continuing to add to the Caregiver’s Corner website, which contains a wealth of resources and educational programs designed to enhance the quality of life for those who are living with dementia and their caregivers.

I would like to acknowledge our extraordinarily dedicated staff who have been working tirelessly amidst a time when the only certainty appears to be uncertainty.  Together with the unwavering commitment of our residents, families, clients, and friends in the community, we are all committed to keeping those in our care safe and supported.  This demonstration of trust has been both admirable and profoundly inspiring.  Thank you.
